Land of Song

Saudient

The Saudient Mountains are a range of cold gray peaks in the southeast of the Land of Song, distant from the Lor’Sha’Une and separated from it by a span of old battlefields and the badlands of the Burren. They became the second home of the Celeste: in the days before the Great War, the exiles of the Schism at Saudient — the banished princess Aria and the many who followed her — settled here, and Celeste have kept flocks of have’ene (the large, chicken-like birds whose feathers make their cloaks) in the mountains ever since.

The settlement keeps its greatest learnings in the Stones of Saudient, verses and insight taught to the young by long oration.

From the peaks the exiles can look upon the forest they cannot return to. Its trees stand tall enough that, from Saudient, one might imagine leaping from peak to branch to reach the wood again — but the chasm of battlefields, and the refusal of the Celeste who cast them out, keep them on the mountains.
